NEWLANDS FARM

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Newlands Farm is the place Rockys Gelato calls home. It’s also where our award winning dairy is produced.

The dairy farm was first bought by Gerald Bailey and his father, Jim, in 1975. They began processing and bottling their own milk onsite 30 years later.

Geralds son, Michael, now works alongside his father and the farm continues to go from strength to strength.

HAPPY COWS

Our cows are happy cows that graze naturally on pastures containing grasses, wildflowers and herbs.

We make the most of our meadows by keeping the cows out for as long as possible. We also preserve our own pasture, to feed to the animals during periods of bad weather.

Numerous studies have found that pasture fed cows produce a milk richer in both nutrients and flavour. It explains why our milk impressed judges to win the Food & Drink awards.

SUSTAINABILITY & WELFARE

Newlands strive to maintain the highest standards of sustainability and animal welfare.

The manure from our cows goes back into feeding our lush meadows and it goes without saying that we exceed all of the Animal Welfare Councils five freedoms:

Animal Welfare Councils Five Freedoms

1

Freedom from Hunger and Thirst: by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.

2

Freedom from Discomfort: by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

3

Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease: by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.

4

Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour: by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s own kind.

5

Freedom from Fear and Distress: by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
